When we see celebs strutting on the red carpet, we can’t help but to fangirl over their outfits. Influencers, bloggers, models, actors, musicians (and more!) are constantly showcasing all the latest trends.
You ever look at something and wonder how much that costed? Probably way out of budget!
Well, what if I told you that a fabulous wardrobe was not only attainable, but that you didn’t have to cause major collateral damage to the wallet while doing it?
Monica Renee Warren, wardrobe stylist, author, and style blogger at Jewels with Style, is helping women (men, too!) do just that.
Personal style is truly universal and applies to everyone, helping you to represent your own brand, create lasting first impressions, nail a job interview, win new clients, and the list goes on!
Personal style is everything!
That’s why when I discovered Monica on Instagram, and saw how she made looking fashionable look so natural, I knew I had to tap on her for all her secrets! Check out her interview below:
Q: How did you get your start in styling?
Monica Renee Warren: I started styling as a spin-off from my blog, Jewels with Style. I saw a lot of women reading the blog, but having a challenge applying it to their actual everyday wardrobe. This gave me the idea that I needed to start styling, and helping women one-on-one.
Q: What kind(s) of consultation do you provide as a wardrobe stylist?
MRW: I provide a few different types of consultations:
- Closet Edits — In this process, I go through someone’s closet, letting them know what they should keep, what they should get rid of, and how to mix and match what they have to create outfits.
- Shopping Assistance — With this, I will meet customers at the store, and help them shop for what looks good on their body, and fits their lifestyle.
- Outfit Creation — In this process, I go to a customer’s home, and look through their entire closet. I put together 30 days’ worth of outfits, take pictures, and send them a virtual copy, so that they don’t have to figure out what to wear every morning.
Q: What are the more challenging aspects of your profession that people would be surprised to find out about?
MRW: Some challenging things are you can never have an off day. I’ve ran into customers or blog readers at the gas station, and I have to look stylish even if I’m just pumping gas. Why? Because who trusts a stylist in sweat pants? No one. Regardless of where I am, if I’m outside of my house, I have to be dressed nice, even when I’m casual because people are always watching what I have on.
Q: Your outfits are so feminine and fun! You have a talent for seamlessly incorporating bright colors and standout accessories into your looks. Please share with us your top style tip!
MRW: Thank you! My top style tip is that cute clothes are everywhere! Often, we get caught up in the idea that something has to be expensive or be a famous label to look stylish. That is false. A Goodwill, Target or consignment shop has as many possible stylish outfits as a designer store.
Q: What are some trends you feel are timeless and will never go out of style?
MRW: Some timeless items that will never go out of style include: a well-fitted blazer, a wrap dress, a good pair of jeans, black pumps, a button up shirt, and a cute leather jacket.
Q: What motivated you to write The Outfit Upgrade? What kinds of tips can readers find within? How do we get our hands on a copy?
MRW: I wrote The Outfit Upgrade because I saw a lot of women missing the basics of great style and putting an outfit together. I was asked a lot of questions regarding “what goes with what?” and “how do I put an outfit together for work?” or “what items do I absolutely need in my closet?” All these questions are answered in the e-book. It’s not an advanced fashionista book, but it’s for those simple steps that will lead you to a great outfit every day. Not for the celebrities, but for the working mom, or the college student transitioning into a real job — just normal women that want to look good. The e-book covers how to create a wardrobe that’s simple yet stylish, and helps you get an outfit idea for everyday of the year. It also covers some fashion laws that I believe every women must abide by when getting dressed daily. The book is available on my website or on Amazon.
Q: If you could raid any one person’s wardrobe for a day, whose would it be?
MRW: Good question! I’d go with Olivia Palermo. I absolutely love everything she wears!
Q: How do we keep up-to-date with you?
Well, there we have it, ladies! Thanks so much to Monica for her time and letting us in on all the deets on how to get a fabulous wardrobe. It’s really not that complicated when you can get a styling consultant, educate yourself through resources like an e-book, or save a dime by shopping at your local consignment store or boutique!
Until next time,
